Opportunity Zones
The revision of the tax code in 2017 included a provision for the creation of Opportunity Zones. This is a somewhat intricate scheme to allow investors to defer capital gains tax if they invest the capital gains into projects in Opportunity Zones. The new investment also renders a tax-free capital gain upon exit. The following chart is from the Forbes article linked below.
